We throw people away without ever knowing who they are and what gifts they possess. They get thrown away for being the wrong color, the wrong gender, for speaking the wrong language, for being in the wrong place, for being too old, too young, too timid, too loud, and yes, sometimes for doing the wrong thing. No one should be thrown away; even if someone merits punishment for something they have done they are a person and their being is sacred. It’s our job to help them remember their better selves.
